Maryland Leaders, Lawmakers Stand Against Governor Hogan's Immigration Plan
Baltimore advocates fear increased enforcement of undocumented immigration - Baltimore Sun |
Earlier this week, Governor Larry Hogan’s political organization, Change Maryland, promoted a story highlighting Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ threat to withhold federal funding and grants from cities and counties that choose not to follow Trump’s cruel and unconstitutional immigration mandates.
A Baltimore Sun story recently reported that the Trump administration is already targeting communities in Maryland, including Montgomery and Prince George's counties.
So the critical question now turns to Governor Hogan: does Governor Hogan agree with Attorney General Sessions that protecting Marylanders' constitutional rights makes Maryland more "at risk for violence and crime"?
The following statement was released by officers of the Maryland Latino Legislative Caucus Delegates Joseline Peña-Melnyk, Maricé Morales, Ana Sol-Gutierrez, and Carlo Sanchez, and Maryland Democratic Party interim chair Kathleen Matthews:
"It's alarming that instead of working with Democrats in Annapolis to keep our diverse communities safe, Governor Hogan and his team are promoting Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his agenda to push Trump’s cruel and unconstitutional immigration mandates in Maryland."
"Since the Trump administration is threatening to punish our state, Marylanders deserve to know if Governor Hogan will stand with our communities or side with the Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions' xenophobic agenda.”
